Common appliance faults in Edmonton

The repairs we get called out for most, and what you can safely check before we arrive.

Faults we fix most often

  • Not cooling: dusty condenser coils or a failing evaporator fan, so heat cannot leave the cabinet
  • Running non-stop: worn door seals or a stuck thermostat push it to run overtime
  • Water pooling inside or below: a frozen, blocked defrost drain backs up
  • Ice maker not filling: a clogged water line or a failed inlet valve

Try this first, or call us

  • Vacuum the coils at the back or underneath, since dust is the usual cause of weak cooling.
  • Check the door seals shut fully, wipe them clean, and keep inside vents clear of food.
  • Give it a full day to settle after you change the temperature.

Sealed-system and compressor work is not a home job. Unplug the fridge or switch off its breaker, move food to a cooler, and call us.

Faults we fix most often

  • Not draining: a clogged pump filter or drain hose, often coins, lint, or hair
  • Will not spin: a worn drive belt, a faulty lid or door switch, or an off-balance load
  • Leaking: a cracked fill hose, a worn door gasket, or a loose connection
  • Walking across the floor: uneven feet or worn suspension

Try this first, or call us

  • Clean the pump filter (front-loaders hide one behind a small door) and check the hoses for kinks.
  • Spread the load out and level the machine so it sits flat.

For motor, control board, or a leak you cannot trace, close the water taps, unplug it, and call us. Do not run a leaking washer.

Faults we fix most often

  • No heat: a burnt-out element (electric), a failed igniter (gas), or a thermal fuse tripped by poor airflow
  • Runs but clothes stay damp: a clogged lint filter or vent choking the airflow
  • Will not start or turn: a broken drive belt or a faulty door switch
  • Getting too hot: a blocked vent, which is also a fire risk

Try this first, or call us

  • Clean the lint filter every load and clear the vent duct, the top cause of poor drying and the main fire hazard.
  • Check the outside vent flap opens when the dryer runs.

Gas and electric heating faults need a technician. If you smell gas, shut off the gas, leave the room, and call us. Otherwise unplug and call, and stop using a dryer that overheats.

Faults we fix most often

  • Not draining: a clogged filter or drain hose from food and grease
  • Dishes still dirty: blocked spray-arm holes or a worn wash pump
  • Leaking: a worn door gasket or a loose hose under the sink
  • Not filling: a faulty water inlet valve

Try this first, or call us

  • Clean the filter at the bottom, clear the spray-arm holes, and run a cleaning cycle.
  • Check the hose under the sink is not kinked.

For pump, electrical, or ongoing leaks, close the shut-off under the sink, switch it off at the breaker, and call us. Do not leave standing water with the power on.

Faults we fix most often

  • Gas burner will not light: clogged burner ports or a worn igniter
  • Electric element will not heat: a burnt-out element or a bad connection
  • Endless clicking or uneven heat: a worn switch or igniter
  • Induction not sensing pans: a control or coil fault

Try this first, or call us

  • Clean the burner ports and igniter and make sure they are fully dry.
  • On coil tops, reseat the element in its socket.

Gas line and 240-volt work is not a home job. If you smell gas, shut off the gas, open a window, leave, and call us. For electrical faults, switch off the breaker and call.

Faults we fix most often

  • Not heating or wrong temperature: a failed bake or broil element, or a faulty sensor
  • Will not turn on: a control board fault or a blown thermal fuse
  • Heat escaping: a worn door gasket that no longer seals
  • Gas oven will not ignite: a failed igniter

Try this first, or call us

  • Check the real temperature with an oven thermometer, and replace a worn door gasket.
  • On an electric oven, look for a visible break in the element.

Gas igniter, gas valve, and board work needs a technician. If you smell gas, shut off the gas, leave, and call us. Otherwise switch off the breaker and call.

What Edmonton customers say

Real reviews from homes around Edmonton.

Came home to a fridge full of warm groceries and a puddle on the floor. Booked Henday that evening and they were out the next morning. Cold again by noon, and the price was exactly what they quoted on the phone.

On time, tidy, and no surprises on the bill. Exactly how it should go.

What stuck with me is the tech actually explained why our dryer was taking two goes to dry a load, instead of just handing me an invoice. Sorted it in under an hour.

Funny thing was only one burner would light and the rest were fine. He figured it out quickly and had it going again the same visit. No fuss.

I was ready to go shopping for a new fridge, honestly. The freezer had quit but the fridge was fine, which made no sense to me. Turned out to be a small fix and half what I expected to pay.

Rang three places about our washer. Henday was the only one that called back the same day and actually turned up when they said.

Booked online at breakfast and by mid-afternoon the dishwasher was draining properly again. Great to finally have someone reliable here in Edmonton.

These are the only people I call for appliances now. Third time using them and they have never let me down.

I had been putting a bucket under the washer for a couple of weeks before I finally called. Wish I had done it sooner, the leak was a quick fix and the floor is dry now.

Such a relief before hosting a birthday. Our oven would not hold temperature and everything was coming out half baked. They came fast and it has been spot on since.

Woke up to water tracking across the kitchen from under the fridge. I expected a runaround, but the person on the phone was straight with me about timing and cost, the tech was polite, and he cleaned up before he left.

Honest is the word. He told me one of our appliances was not worth repairing rather than charging me to limp it along. That kind of straight talk earns my business.
